Kohima District is largely Inhabited by the Angami Naga tribe who are revered for their culture and tradition. And also for their gallantry in warfare during the British rule in India. But perhaps, Kohima is best known to tourists for breeding magnificent terrains like Dzukou valley, Khonoma, Kisama, Touphema and Dzuleke.
We will peek into the cultures and lifestyle of the Angamis. Apart from this, the trip will be a blend of Adventures in Dzukou Valley, Fishing and Barbecuing, Village Walks and Super Enriching Culinary Experiences for Meat lovers.
If you are an individual who loves cultural exchange, being closer to nature and looks forward to detox yourself from the digital and city life, this trip to Nagaland is an ideal getaway for you.
The experiences in this trip have been carefully curated for you, promising an enriching memorable Introduction to Northeast India.
Welcome to Northeast! After meet and greet at the Dimapur airport/station, we drive straight to the capital town Kohima escorted by tough roads and great drivers. We will experience drop in mercury levels as we reach the hill station and be greeted by magnificent views. We check-in to our home stay (hopefully just at the time of sunset and enjoy the view with a cup of tea). Spend the rest of the evening at leisure chit-chatting and getting to know each other more. Have a good night sleep tonight for tomorrow is going to be an adventure.
We start our day super early today and drive towards the starting point of the trek to Dzukou, Jakhama. After climb of almost 3 hours in a dense Jungle, suddenly the ascend stops, the jungle clears and you get a total panoramic view of the Valley. 15 mins walk in the Valley will take us to the rest house where we retire for the night. Get high on nature or whatever makes you pleasant and chilled, sip unlimited cups of tea, dance and sing around the bonfire or just relax admist the valley with a book and some wine and refuel yourself for tomorrow.
Rise early today as we go around the valley, exploring the surroundings, capturing moments, taking dips in chilled streams and do anything and everything that makes us laugh if not smile. Immerse yourself to your surroundings as much as you can and prepare to trek back down around lunch. We should reach the base before sunset. Spend the evening at leisure in Kohima in a beautiful Campsite/Homestay.
Wake up with a beautiful view and smell some coffee while we prep for a little village walk in Kigwema and capital city tour. We walk through 4 sectors of this village to see the various stones and monoliths with folklores behind it that will appeal your mind, Visit the house that was built by Japanese Colonel during the 2nd World War which is still the same and visit the oldest women (120 years old) in the village. Post that we head to explore the capital city and the local markets. Post lunch we drive to the first green village, Khonoma and check in to our home stay to experience the wonderful Angami hospitality.
Khonoma earned this name of the first green village when it banned hunting and cutting down of trees which was a bold move considering heavy dependency of Nagas in these resources for survival. We stroll through the 3 Khels(Sectors) of this village and see the lifestyle of the locals (Angami Nagas) closely. Post that we will spend some time in the vast terraced rice fields of unreal beauty and return to camp for lunch. Post lunch, we start our beautiful drive to Dzuleke. 18 Kms further on this Trip to Nagaland and a couple of Selfie stops later, we reach this magical place. Check-in to a camp. For those who may wish, we can even go pluck some fresh Nagaland herbs from the jungle when the clocks strikes 4:20. Spend the evening around the bonfire and be merry.
Today we leisurely go around the village stream with our camping chairs and spend some time fishing or just soaking ourselves in the beauty. Stroll around, pick some fresh vegetables for lunch and barbecue today's catch. After delightful lunch we start our drive to Dimapur, the commercial capital of Nagaland. We stay here overnight at a camp. Or one can take a train from Dimapur to Guwahati to catch the flight from there.
Bittersweet news, today you head back home. An end of a chapter in Nagaland. We drive to the airport as per flight timings (if you haven't left already for Guwahati the night before). Until we meet next time.
