The Country has developed the philosophy of Gross National Happiness, whereby development is measured using a holistic approach of well-being, and not just based on gross domestic product. Farming is one of the main income sources of the people there.
The 8 days itinerary takes you through the beautiful landscapes, and amazing culture of the mesmerizing country that Bhutan is. The stark difference between India and Bhutan can be observed at the border town Phuentsholing, and going further in, you will notice the forest cover that this amazing country holds and preserves.
While most of the beauty of Bhutan comes without too much effort, there is trekking to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) monastery, which is slightly tough, but totally worth every step you take and every drop of sweat you break. Heading to explore the capital city Thimphu after that, and further north into Punakha, you will be amazed by how much beauty, peace, and happiness this country has in store for you.
Arrive at Siliguri airport. Pickup from the airport and drive to Phuentsholing. You can walk around and explore the stark contrast between the Indian side and Bhutanese side across the border, and enjoy some Ema Datchi (chilli + Cheese) and wine. Overnight stay at Phuentsholing.
Head to the permit office by 8 and apply for the permits (Passport or Voter's id mandatory for Indians) The procedure will take 2 hours, and permit will be issued by afternoon. Explore Phuentsholing further till then. Drive to Thimphu after Lunch. Visit the Shopping street and explore the city and its cuisines. Overnight at Thimphu.
Visit the famous Buddha Point, known for its views. Head to the Takin Reserve park next. Break for Lunch afterwards. Head to the post office, and get custom stamps printed with your pics. Visit the textile and crafts museum after lunch, to see the amazing minute craftmanship of the locals. Night stay at Thimphu.
Start the drive to Punakha after breakfast. Enjoy the scenic view at Dochula Pass, and the 108 Chortens commemorating the Bhutanese lives lost. Continue to Punakha after a short break. Arrive at Punakha, and head to Punakha Dzong after lunch. After spending enough time enjoying the beauty and structure of the Dzong, head to the Suspension Bridge. Head back to the hotel or explore the small town. Overnight at Punakha.
Morning drive to Paro via Dochula. Reach Paro by afternoon. Head to the National Museum. After the museum visit, try catching a glimpse of flight landing in one of the toughest airports of the world. Explore Paro Town afterwards, and get some energy bars and refreshments for the next day's trek. Overnight at Paro.
Time to put your muscles to test. Trek 3 hours to reach Taktsang Moastery. Enjoy the beautiful views from in and around the monastery, and also the beautiful marvel the monastery itself is. For the adventure enthusiasts, resume the trek and head to the monastery above for a wonderful view of places around, and an aerial view of Taktsang. Head down after enjoying your time there. Head back to Paro. Overnight at Paro.
Slow start to the day, stretching your exposed muscles. After breakfast, head to Paro town, do some shopping, and head to Phuentsholing. Reach Phuentsholing by evening. Explore the little town, and the Indian side too, and stay there.
Head to Siliguri after breakfast. Drop provided at Siliguri Railway station and airport. Return with tonnes of amazing memories.
